A new photo-based publication on Asia.
Featuring previously unseen work by Alec Soth, alongside contributions from Martin Parr, Nigel Shafran, and Sarker Protick.
Launching in 8th November 2025 and based in Paris, asia is a new photo-based publication exploring the vast and diverse landscapes of the Asian continent. Through the eyes of those who live there and those who pass through, it seeks to reveal multiple layers of Asia — its intimacy, contradictions, and quiet beauty.
The first issue features ten photographers from around the world.
Martin Parr offers a humorous yet critical view of everyday life and festivity in India, where he has worked for over three decades. Jungjin Lee captures the natural landscapes of Jeju Island, South Korea, in deep, ink-like tones. Farah Al Qasimi explores Dubai’s massive shopping complex Dragon Mart, portraying the surreal aesthetics of globalization and consumption.
Alec Soth presents a previously unpublished body of work shot in Hokkaido, Japan — a seven-day journey with a woman he met by chance, reconstructed across 32 pages. Nigel Shafran quietly documents everyday life in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, while Xiaopeng Yuan playfully stages modern masculinity in contemporary Asian society.
From Bangladesh, Sarker Protick continues his long-term documentation of the Bengal region amid transformation and tension. Ryu Ika, based in Paris, explores memory and motherhood through dreamlike images from Inner Mongolia.
Ece Gökalp examines the Latmos Mountains in Turkey, tracing the scars of mining and questioning the relationship between nature and civilization. Yukihito Kono photographs the daily life of IACK — his bookstore and gallery in Kanazawa, Japan — closing the issue with quiet introspection.
asia is edited and published by Ko Ueoka, with art direction and design by Menghan Li, and will be released annually from Paris. Composed entirely of photographs taken across Asia, this magazine accumulates diverse images of the region with each issue, aiming to hold lasting value as a visual archive of Asia.
