The title of Erika Yoshino’s new work Neroli is taken from the aroma oil extracted from the bitter orange flower. It is a complex aroma that is a mixture of the flower nectar, tree bark, and leaf. The images extracted by way of time gathered and connections with the environment evoke specific things inside the viewer that Yoshino characterizes as aroma.
Images reflected by mirrors, recurring images of water. Jackets of music she loves, setup for photographing. Re-photographing of photographic prints, things suggestive of what the photograph itself creates and loses...in her world of photographic works Yoshino mixes fiction with reality to draw near fleeting moments of irreplaceable importance.
The delicate yellow cloth book binding is another attractive feature of the book. Included at the end of the book is an essay by Yutaka Kikutake, “Echoes Resembling Musical Tones.”
