來自洛杉磯,旅居東京、京都的攝影師兼作家 Sean Lotman 著迷於30-50年代好萊塢電影常常使用的 Technicolor 底片,透過其特有的顯色,來紀錄旅行所見所聞離異迷幻的一面。每一張照片都是 Lotman 親自在暗房沖洗實驗,似乎也能感覺到他將虛構敘事(narrative fiction)的寫作技巧灌注於本書《The Sniper Paused So He Could Wipe His Brow》的影像之中。

作品之間夾著20首短詩,節錄幾首如下:

the meaning of life: you think you got it, then it slips away again (人生的意義:當你以為終於掌握它,它又再一次從手中溜走)

men hither, thither; fortunes made and lost– poets’ words read by no one
(此方、彼方的人;被賺進又散盡的財富-- 詩人們的話沒有人聽)

the sniper paused so he could wipe his brows and have a sip of water
(狙擊手停了下來,為了擦汗、喝一口水)

then the clouds parted– a ray of light burst the sky– no one commented
(然後雲煙消散--一束光貫穿天際--沒有人說話)

footsteps in the sand… the wind blows, rearranging the world as it was
(沙裡的履痕... 風吹來,回復了世界的原貌)
