Since ancient times, people have lived alongside tools central to their traditional way of life. Tool of Sauvage is a magazine that steps back from the efficiency-driven capitalist society to pursue tools born from and rooted in the various climates and cultures of the world. It expresses place,culture, and humanity through the medium of tools.

ISSUE 3 focuses on Taiwan. While the Taiwanese people are known for their friendly national character, the reporting team confronted the "chaos" inherent in Taiwanese culture. To articulate this country—with its multiple layers of Chinese, Japanese colonial rule, and Indigenous influences—through its tools, we traveled south from Taipei all the way to Orchid Island (蘭嶼), thoroughly collecting everyday items related to life and festivals. This issue uses the collected, sometimes motley assortment of tools to uncover the profound, true face of Taiwan that cannot be described in a single word, all from the perspective of one Japanese person.
