Rop van Mierlo is known for his wet-on-wet painting style, which leads to amorphous, fuzzy shapes. But through his skilful application, these vibrantly colourful blobs are still recognisable as various animals. ‘Colouring Book’, however, takes a different approach. Here Van Mierlo uses strictly black paint to produce his signature images of animals such as a snail, dolphins, frogs, bears, seahorses, and even a tarantula, leaving you – in true colouring book fashion – to imagine and add the colours yourself.
