In the darkness of Tokyo, I pressed the shutter.
Before me, a man dissolved into a silhouette while the men on the screen behind him appeared vividly.
In that moment, I realized that for me as a gay man, another man is both an object of desire and a mirror of myself. Alienated from society’s idea of “man,” yet drawn to masculinity, I found these conflicting feelings coexisting within me.
The color pink in this book symbolizes layered meanings: the man projected onto myself, the man I desire, and the gay men long marginalized in society.
This photobook traces the abstract journey of a young man wandering through shifting images of “man” in search of his own identity.
A5 size, codex binding with exposed pink thread on the spine.
UV-printed photograph on gray chipboard cover with the title Silhouette foil-stamped.
Limited edition of 100 copies, produced for the exhibition Silhouette at platform3 (Tokyo).
