The standard work on minimalist photography.
Ten newcomers and established photo artists of a global movement are skillfully presented.

Minimalism and minimalist photography are undoubtedly in tune with the times. Because art is always a reaction to society. We live (again) in turbulent times (pandemic, global natural disasters and political states of emergency) - hence the longing for reduction to the essential, for clear lines. Being mindful in the moment is also a counter design to the permanent sensory overload through endless news feeds. The minimalism trend is reflected holistically in our society, for example in the areas of living (cf. Marie Kondo, Tiny Houses), (environmentally) conscious living (Slow Food, Zero Waste, Slow Fashion etc.) and mindfulness (Yoga, Meditation & Co.).

Being in the moment means rediscovering everyday life. The minimalist photographer's eye draws attention to the aesthetics of the ordinary and transforms them into something special, inspiring. The photographs often show sections to depict the special within the whole, always using clean lines, often in geometric compositions.

Minimalist artists such as Maria Svarbova, Natalie Christensen or Marcus Cederberg draw their motifs from everyday life. Sometimes they are schematic descriptions of topography, sometimes purely two-dimensional, abstract compositions. Sometimes they are detailed, sometimes spacious. It is always a matter of reduction.
