中平卓馬
1938年生於東京，為日本戰後的重要攝影家兼評論家。1958年進入東京外國語大學西班牙語學系就讀，期間積極參與60年代日本新左翼的學生運動與政治鬥爭。畢業後旋即進入文藝思潮刊物《現代之眼》擔任編輯，期間以「柚木明」之筆名發表文章，與此同時與劇作家寺山修司、攝影家東松照明相識，並透過東松照明介紹下引發拍照的興趣。
1965-1968年，在東松照明的召集下，中平卓馬參與「攝影百年：日本人攝影表現的歷史」展覽籌備，檢視了大量影像、時間從1840年為始跨越一世紀的攝影圖像，促使中平對「攝影究竟是什麼？」一問進行深入思索，遂與高梨豐、多木浩二、岡田隆彥於1968年創辦攝影雜誌《PROVOKE》，主張攝影並非傳達情報或是解答的媒介，同時以粗劣、搖晃、失焦的強烈手法，顛覆了當時以精準、唯美的主流的攝影美學。
